| | | The first time with the camera on all night while
I sleep...

Gotta go to a meeting. Better put some clothes on I suppose...

Some TV news reporters strike me as incredibly boring and self-important
people. Their pompous ('authoritative') attitude really gets up my nose :-)

  This
was yet another 'is the Internet bubble going to burst?' story. In other words,
'we hope so, because we work in TV'.
At least not as bad as the newspapers which feature some really stupid Internet-scare
stories. Or course, they are terrified about losing their classified advertising
to the Internet, so slag it off at every opportunity.

One headline I saw was 'Judge warns of dangers of Internet'. Some man had apparently
found details of how to make a bomb on the 'net and this was mentioned by the
judge at his trial.

In fact, the man could very likely have found all kinds of 'useful' similar information
down at his local library. But would we see the headline: 'Judge warns of dangers
of books'? Of course not.

Then, this week, some Bishop was also warning of the dangers. This time because
we will supposedly end up as a society with no communication skills.

Hello? He seems to have missed the point. The 'net is very much about communication.
Instead of sitting in front of the TV, people are using the 'net to stay in touch
with friends and relatives who are far away. They are chatting and interacting,
making new friends -- sometimes ones that turn into 'real-life' friends.

When I get together with friends and neighbours it is often to help each other
with computer-related stuff.

And you, dear visitor, would you even know I existed if it wasn't for the web?
Here I am communicating with you in a way that wasn't possible until five years
ago :-)

Of course, judges are not exactly reknowned for having their finger on the pulse.
There was the famous story of a judge who found himself on a London bus for the
first time in his life... 'Where to mate?' asked the conductor. The judge gave
his full home address and thought the bus would take him to the door. Scary...

Tut -- friends keeping me up late again (like I need much persuasion!)...
