We took a walk to test out my new camera. And the new Sainsbury's store at Oxford Road station...

This is a relatively new bar with an outdoor area, in a spot I never thought would attract something like this. It's on Oxford Road, right next to the motorway flyover. A bit of a 'concrete jungle'. But it's nicely-done, with a brightly-lit outdoor area and they do good coffee too.

Let's see what's showing at the Palace Theatre...

The forthcoming attraction looks good (nice hosepipe!). Meanwhile, 'you are here' says Miss Noodle.

After sussing out the new Sainsbury's, which looks as though it is going to be permanently busy with too many students, we decided to walk over to Piccadilly Station...

Which has, guess what? Yeah -- another Sainsbury's... Or to give it its full name 'Sainsbury's Local'. An unfortunate name as, following The League of Gentlemen' TV series, the phrase 'local shop' has sinister connotations... the League of gentlemen

Ah well, now I can tell you... We've been coming here quite a bit lately. The store just opened recently and not many people know about it. With the result they don't sell a lot of their fresh produce in time.

This ends up massively reduced (like to one twentieth of the regular price) and some nights we've walked away with four bags of shopping for just a couple of pounds :-)

Piccadilly Station used to be a god-awful 1960's mess that you just wanted to get out of as quickly as possible. But they recently rebuilt it and, I never thought I'd say this, but it's now quite a relaxing place to hang out.

It can be fun just to sit with a coffee, watching people go by.

The way they've mixed the old Victorian station with modern elements is great. Not sure about the fake palm trees though...

I must be getting old but, these days, rather than go out to a bar or club, I'd much rather just do a bit of shopping, have a coffee and then stroll back home, perhaps walking through the gay village on the way... Sainsbury's is the new going out...

However, it did strike me that the new Piccadilly Station would make the most amazing venue for a one-off club night!

The new moving pavement is also a welcome addition for anyone who has to use unlucky platform 13 -- which is miles from the main station entrance!
